Helping Others Help Themselves

BIG NEWS! ANNUAL GIFT AMOUNT TO BE INCREASED IN 2010

As a result of a number of generous donations and fund raising efforts, CNSC is pleased to announce that the amount of our annual gift to those currently undergoing treatment for cancer will be increased, effective January 1, 2010! As we have always said, the more money we can raise, the more money we can give. CNSC started with a one time gift of $50 in 2001 and will be able now to give a $350 annual gift.

8TH ANNUAL  WINE TASTING AND FASHION SHOW

The 8th Annual Wine Tasting and Fashion Show was a huge success again this year. When economic times are tough, Sanders County residents are still generous in an effort to help their less fortunate neighbors. Nearly 170 tickets were sold, many individuals and businesses donated items for the live and silent auction, and the wine and hor d’oeuvres were appreciated by all. CNSC is so very grateful to McGowan’s Grocery, Mountain West Clothing, Clark Fork Valley Hospital and Family Medicine, Community Medical Center, ST. Patrick Hospital and Health Sciences, and Northwest Radiology and Oncology at Kalispell Medical Center for their sponsorship, leadership, donations to make this event “THE” fall event in Sanders County. We can never say “Thank you “ enough times, nor loudly enough to express our gratitude. What a fine thing these organizations and people do to help. It is not too early to put the 9th Annual Wine Tasting and Fashion Show on your calendar for next year: Thursday, October 7,2010.

DISCLAIMER: Often we lose one of our residents and we do not get that name off our mailing list.  Please accept our apology for that oversight.  To remove a name from our list, please e-mail pln4278@blackfoot.net or call 826-4278

SANDERS COUNTY FAIRBOARD

The 1st Annual  “Are You Tough Enough To Ride Pink?” tractor lawn mower raffle was a wonderful event!  Mike Hashisaki, Fair Manager, and the Sanders County Fairboard joined forces to create a new fundraiser for CNSC.  The Fairboard paid all the expenses involved in the raffle, so every dollar from every ticket sold went directly to the Cancer Network.  The winner of the lawn mower was Mr. Rick Robinson who currently splits his time between Missoula and Trout Creek.  He said the timing couldn’t be better since his old mower would occasionally not run at all, and poorly when it did run!  The amount raised from this event will be distributed to assist 7 residents when they ask for our help.  Our heartfelt thanks go to Mike and the Fairboard for their involvement in this project.  We understand it will happen again next year and the mower will be pink!

QUILTS

One of the quilts donated by The Quilting House was raffled at the conclusion of the Sanders County Fair. The lucky winner of that quilt was Dana Cantor of Charlo. The “Scrappy” quilt raffle is still in progress and will soon come to an end. If anyone out there hasn’t purchased tickets and would like to still have a chance to win this beautiful quilt, you can send money for the ticket(s) to K. Miller, P.O. Box 1311, Plains, MT, 59859. This raffle is on a numbered board (1 – 200) and while many numbers have been chosen, you can still request certain numbers and we will put your name on those squares if they are available. The chances are $10/square or 3 squares for $25.

Tax Credit

As the end of the year approaches, it is now a good time to remind our friends and benefactors that a gift given directly to the
M        Montana Community Foundation on behalf of the Cancer Network of Sanders County receives a tax credit.  This is even
better than a taxable deduction!  If this interests you, please call 826-4278 for additional information on how this can be done.

Adjunct Membership

Because our group is small, we are finding it more difficult to assist in all the fund raising efforts that are being held on our behalf.  We would like to have some people whom we could have on a call list to occasionally assist us in our efforts.  It may be helping set up for an event, it may be cleaning up, it may be selling raffle tickets, it may be folding newsletters, etc.  We invite any of you out there to let us know of your willingness to help and become Adjunct Members of CNSC.  The best part of this type of involvement???  NO meetings!  Call 826-4278 if you are interested in helping us.

Non-typical Fundraisers

If you have an idea for a fundraiser, let us know!  Several friends of CNSC have undertaken some events to help us raise money.

Mr. Scott Wigton, Head Basketball Coach, Hot Springs and his mother, Trudy Wigton, held a “Shooting Down Cancer” event last year.  Both the boy’s and girl’s basketball teams kept track of every free throw and every 3-point shot made for the season.  Businesses were asked to be a sponsor for this event and were told the amount would not exceed $50.  The total points came to 544, more than anticipated!  There is a board, donated by The Printery, that now hangs in the new gymnasium with sponsor plaques attached to it.  Guynn Cavalini made the initial sign to keep track of the points.  Trudy thinks they may do this again and make it grow.  They only asked for 10 sponsors the first time!

Ms. Willa Gingery, Certified Massage Therapist, from Missoula has approached CNSC about helping.  She will give ‘massage credits’ or gift certificates for a massage if any of her clients donate to CNSC.  All  they have to do is show her the “thank you” note from CNSC for their donation.

First Security Bank held a “Shredding Day” at both of their locations in the county.  Anyone could bring items to be shredded to the bank parking lot, and the big truck with the shredding machine gleefully ate up all material for a donation to CNSC.  Then to make the event even better, FSB offered to match those donations!  As a result, 3 more people will be able to be helped.

Carol Brooker and CNSC are working on an idea for some type of a spring gathering, watch the paper for details!

Laura Lanfear has offered the Skunk Alley Run during Homesteader’s Days in Hot Springs as another annual event for CNSC.  Thanks
