Helping Others Help Themselves

SPRING RENEWAL

While March was “coming in like a lion”, many brave souls came to the Sanders County Fairgrounds to participate in the 3rd Annual Spring Renewal.  Our thanks go to the Brooker family for sponsoring this annual event, to Carol Fryxell for coordinating the kitchen crew and providing a wonderful BBQ lunch, to the many Senior Centers, Clubs, and individuals for again providing baskets for the silent auction, and to the other volunteers who helped with the set-up, auction, and food.  CNSC is currently reviewing this event to find a way to make it even bigger and better.  Be sure to watch for an announcement in the next newsletter for the 2010 plans!

QUILTING MARATHON

The 3rd annual Quilting Marathon took place in Thompson Falls again this year under the guidance and sponsorship of Charlotte Rowe and The Quilting House.  The quilt this year is a super queen sized “Scrappy” pattern.  Chances to win this quilt will be available at most all major summer events in the county, and will be available at various businesses throughout the county all summer.  CNSC will sell a limited number of chances ($10/each or $25/3 chances).  The raffle will be on a board with squares numbered 1 – 200.  CNSC is very grateful to Char Rowe for organizing this event and for all those quilters who sewed their little hearts out for their neighbors in need in Sanders County!  That group continues to be great supporters of the Cancer Network.

DISCLAIMER:Often we lose one of our residents and we do not get that name off our mailing list.  Please accept our apology for that oversight.  To remove a name from our list, please e-mail pln4278@blackfoot.net or call 826-4278

UPCOMING EVENTS

We have two quilts being raffled this summer.  CNSC members will be selling chances on both of the quilts all summer.  Chances to win one of the quilts will be sold all summer and will finish at the Sanders County Fair.  Be on the watch for this display at many of the summer events in the county and at various businesses as well.  To win this quilt, you can buy tickets for $1/each or $5/for 6 tickets.  The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the Fair.  The second raffle will be for the “Scrappy” quilt, and the drawing for that quilt will be held as soon as all 200 chances have been sold.  If any one would like to buy chances but can’t attend any of the events, please send your money along with your request to K. Miller, P.O. Box 1311, Plains, MT  59859.  If you want to purchase chances on the “Scrappy” quilt, be sure to include your choice of number(s) between 1 – 200.  It would also be good to give a couple of alternate numbers just in case someone else has beaten you to it!!  Make your check payable to CNSC.

The 9th Annual Wine Tasting and Fashion Show will again be held in Plains at the Sanders County Fairgrounds Pavilion, October 8, 2009.  You can again be guaranteed a good time, wonderful auction items, and a superb choice of wines to sample and food to eat.  Be sure to watch the local newspapers for additional information as the time for the event comes closer.

HOW DO I GET HELP?

The only criterion for getting assistance from CNSC is that you are a Sanders County resident currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Our gift is an annual gift (once a calendar year). We are currently able to assist with a gift of $300. That amount is subject to change depending on how much money is in the account!  We have always said, and it still remains true – the more we have, the more we give. Unfortunately, there is also a downside to that  -- if we don’t have it, we can’t give it!

Applications for assistance can be obtained from any of the financial institutions in the county, all of the CFVH clinics and the hospital, Nancy Jo Howarth, and local churches. If you are still having difficulty obtaining a form, call Kathy Miller (826-4278) or e-mail pln4278@blackfoot.net for help.

ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH TO DRIVE A PINK LAWNMOWER?

We challenged Sanders County to come up with additional and different ways to raise funds for CNSC.  The Sanders County Fair Board has come to CNSC with a proposal to do just that.  They purchased an MTD 17.5 HP riding lawnmower with a 42” deck, have covered the red colored portion with removable pink vinyl, and will be selling tickets to win this lawnmower $5/each,  $20/5 tickets.  Tickets will be available at a variety of businesses in the county, at Plains Day, the Huckleberry Festival, Sanders County Fair, and other events throughout the summer.  Tickets can also be purchased by sending your money to Kathy Miller, P.O. Box 1311, Plains, MT  59859, or contacting any of the CNSC members.  We are very excited about this new venture and hope it becomes an annual event.  Drawing for the winner will take place on Friday during the Fair.  You need not be present to win.  Make your check payable to CNSC.

GOOGLE SEARCH

This fall, a gentleman called and asked if we had any information on a certain person.  Being very skeptical, he was asked many questions and why he was making this inquiry.  To make a long story short, he had “googled” the name of a favorite aunt of his whom he had not heard from with her annual Christmas card and found her name on one of our CNSC Newsletters.  As it happens, she had passed away and he was able to get that information from us and we had a wonderful trip down memory lane – one unintended service CNSC provided!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

CNSC continues to try to expand our efforts to raise additional funds.  As this effort goes forward, it becomes increasingly necessary for our group to expand.  We need people who would be willing to help at the various events we have planned.  You wouldn’t have to come to any meetings and you don’t have to pay any dues!!!  If you are interested in helping set up for an event, sell tickets for the various raffles, bake cookies, stick addresses on newsletters, etc., please let us know.  826-4278
